Deep-diving house and techno from a highly regarded German selector

OCEAN is an expedition to a vast sonic expanse organised by respected Tokyo-based sound explorers Iori and Haruka. For their June voyage, they have invited Berlin DJ and producer Phillip Sollmann, best known for his work as Efdemin.

A regular fixture on Dial, Curle and Liebe*Detail, Sollmann has built up a reputation for elegant, subtle deep house and techno. His mixing talents were well documented on the impeccable deep house set Carry On, Pretend We Are Not In The Room back in 2008, and now he’s returned to the mix CD format with the more techno-oriented Naif. The widespread acclaim for the compilation is testament to Sollmann’s skills as a selector, and you can expect to hear all manner of deep-cover selections, new and old, during his appearance on the Studio X Floor.

Welcoming the German crewman on board, OCEAN’s two residents will discover the best sound route for him. Future Terror’s Haruka came to light through his close working relationship with DJ Nobu, but he’s quickly established himself as a thrilling force within Japan’s techno scene in his own right. Now playing in Europe and other places, Haruka’s considered approach can span from delicate, psychedelic to tougher, more functional techno.

Iori has been going from strength to strength as a recording artist, establishing himself in the most interesting intersections of techno and experimental music. While his albums can touch on ambient, drone-based music, his singles present intriguing variations on the techno format. These divergent influences feed into his craft, and his approach behind the decks at HMS OCEAN. All aboard!
