Perlonized house and techno from the outer limits

Fumiya Tanaka and Thomas Franzmann have been close allies for more than 10 years. Franzmann is best known as Zip, the label boss for the critically acclaimed German label Perlon Records. Recording as Dimbiman, he helped define the evolution of minimal house and techno since the 90s, while his approach to DJing is held in high regard by crowds all over the world. With the kind of covert record selections that leave track spotters scratching their heads, Zip’s DJ sets are rightly considered the stuff of legend to anyone who witnesses one.

While Perlon has a wide-ranging sound, Fumiya Tanaka is one of the artists who best encapsulates the unusual, mysterious but always floor-focused style that makes the label so unique. The Tokyo mainstay has been a vital force in the Japanese minimal scene, operating in tandem with Franzmann’s movements in Europe. Meanwhile his own Sundance label has been the perfect vessel for Tanaka to explore his sound as a solo artist and collaborator with Ricardo Villalobos and Radiq amongst others.

The pair have continued a fruitful dialogue over the years, regularly appearing on line-ups together in Europe and the Far East and delivering consistently intriguing variations on the house and techno tradition. This latest session at CHAOS promises more of the same gold standard dance music from the farthest reaches.

“multiple”, a crew that has hosted parties at Time Out Cafe & Diner and Saloon, will be taking over the Contact floor with B2B sets. Kyoto’s promising duo Toshiki x Torei, YELLOWUHURU, IGAXX, CICA, LANQUIDITY, special house set by Tokyo’s techno DJs Tatsuoki and SAKUMA, as well as resident multiple exposure take on the key phrase “house” to navigate the crowd throughout the evening.
